The 15 places in the running to be named first ever UK Town of Culture

  • Fifteen towns , including Grimsby , Rotherham , and Great Yarmouth , have been shortlisted for the UK ’s inaugural Town of Culture award.
  • These towns were selected from nearly 400 applicants and will each receive £60,000 to develop comprehensive bids for the 2028 accolade.
  • The winning town will be designated 'UK Town of Culture 2028', securing a £3 million government grant and hosting a season of cultural events.
  • The shortlisted towns are categorised into small, medium, and large, with runners-up in the final stage receiving a £250,000 grant.
  • Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy congratulated the shortlisted towns, highlighting the competition's aim to showcase their significant contributions to national life.
