Robbie Coltrane has passed away at the age of 72 today. The Scottish actor is best known for his portrayal of Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series.
His agent Belinda Wright shared the sad news earlier today in a statement that read: "My client and friend Robbie Coltrane OBE passed away on Friday October 14."
Speaking on Robbie's role as the beloved gatekeeper, Ms Wright said: "He will probably be best remembered for decades to come as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, a role which brought joy to children and adults alike all over the world, prompting a stream of fan letters every week for over 20 years."

David Ryall
Albus Dumbledore's close friend Elphias Doge was played by David Ryall in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One.
The Sussex-born actor began his career in 1965 as a repertoire actor.
After his role in Harry Potter in 2010, David's last appearance was on Call the Midwife and the episode was dedicated to him after his death at the age of 79.
Rob Knox
Marcus Belby was part of Horace Slughorn's Slug Club in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in which he was played by Rob Knox.
He started acting at the young age of 11 and appeared in the Bill and made his movie debut as an extra in King Arthur.
Rob was tragically murdered in Sidcup after intervening in a fight to protect his brother who was being threatened with knives.
The Rob Knox Film Festival was launched in his memory.
Richard Griffiths
Harry Potter's uncle Vernon Dursley was played by Richard Griffiths in five Harry Potter films.
His acting career spanned five decades and included radio, television, film and theatre work. Richard was the recipient of several awards including a Tony Award.
He died aged 65 after complications from heart surgery.
Dave Legeno
Infamous werewolf Fenrir Greyback was played by Dave in the three last Harry Potter movies.
He passed away in Death Valley in California from heat-related causes.
The film Last Knights in which he acted was dedicated to him.
Roger Lloyd-Pack
Roger played Barty Crouch Senior in the fourth Harry Potter instalment.
His most notable roles were as Trigger in Only Fools and Horses and as John Lumic alongside David Tennant's Doctor Who. Roger was a Tottenham Hotspur fan, and the video that plays before every game at the stadium is voiced by him.
The actor passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 69 in 2014.
John Hurt
Accomplished actor John Hurt played Mr Ollivander in the Harry Potter films.
His acting career spans decades but some of his more notable roles included V for Vendetta, Indiana Jones and as the War Doctor in Doctor Who.
John passed away at the age of 77 after being in remission from pancreatic cancer for two years.
Robert Hardy
Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge was played by Robert Hardy.
Robert was notable for playing Winston Churchill on several occasions, including in Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years for which he was nominated for a BAFTA.
He passed away in 2017 aged 91.
Verne Troyer
Verne played the goblin Griphook in the Harry Potter films.
He was raised Amish and began his acting career as a stunt double before being cast as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers series.
Verne died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 49.
Helen McCrory
Draco Malfoy's mother Narcissa was played by Helen in the last three Harry Potter films.
She was nominated for a huge amount of awards during her career and won several, including a BAFTA Cymru for her role in Streetlife and a Laurence Olivier Award for The Last of the Haussmans.
She also spent the Covid-19 pandemic raising money for the Feed NHS programme.
Helen passed away from breast cancer in 2021 at the age of 52.
Alfred Burke
Albus Dumbledore's predecessor as Hogwarts' headmaster was Armando Dippet, played by Alfred Burke.
He was most known for playing Frank Market on Public Eye for ten years.
Alfred was also in several Shakespeare plays put on by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
He died from a chest infection aged 92.
Paul Ritter
The beloved actor Paul Ritter is most known for playing Martin Goodman on Friday Night Dinner, but he also starred as Eldred Worple in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
His brain tumour and subsequent death at 54 sparked nationwide grief with a Friday Night retrospective episode being dedicated to him.
Hazel Douglas
Hazel played scholar and longstanding friend of Dumbledore Bathilda Bagshot.
Her career started during the early days of television in 1947. She passed away at the age of 92 in 2016.
