Fast food isn’t necessarily the cheap lunch it once was.

The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows prices for limited-service meals were 3.2% higher in August 2026 than a year earlier. Grocery prices increased 2.2% over the same period, meaning the price gap between eating at home and grabbing lunch on the go continues to matter for household budgets.
