The 1% Club viewers in stitches at Lee Mack's new game show but want format change

A brand new gameshow hit our television screens on Saturday night as viewers were left in stitches at The 1% Club.

Would I Lie to You regular Lee Mack is the host of the new ITV show, and caters to fans of The Chase and Tipping Point who may not have the best general knowledge on topics, reports the Mirror.

In this show, logic and common sense is the main point of The 1% Club, and contestants are whittled down from 100 to one with £100,000 at stake.

At the beginning, every contestant begins with £1,000 prize money and are asked questions that a certain percentage of the public know the answer to.

As contestants are eliminated, their money goes into a kitty where the money will be split between those who make it to the end of the show.

Those who get all 12 of the questions correct are in with a shot of bagging up to £100,000.

One stand-out point on the show is Lee Mack's hilarious hosting, as one Twitter user wrote: " The 1 % club is actually a good gameshow. A good concept and Lee Mack is a good host."

Another said: "ngl I'd love to see lee mack as a contestant on the 1 % club bc I feel like he'd absolutely smash it."

And a third said: "Who else is getting their glam on for @LeeMack tonight? #The1PercentClub"

However, viewers also made the point that fan participation could benefit the show even more, in order to make it more interactive.

One said: "ITV need to make it a live show though and make it so we can all play along at home with stat updates and the like!”

And a second Twitter user wrote: "Broadcast this live, add in an app for folk watching to play along and you'll have the best quiz format since Millionaire.”

Another user tweeted: “Needs to have a "play along at home" option. Otherwise, it's a bit boring just watching people getting easy questions wrong.”

Another tweeted: “ITV need to make this interactive so we can play at home. Like 5 gold rings did.”

Host Lee Mack had his say on the show, stating: "Great contestants, loads of cash to win, and guaranteed ‘I can’t believe you couldn’t work that one out Dad!’ moments to cause family disputes — I love it.

"I like quizzes that are tough. I watch University Challenge knowing that if I’m lucky I’ll get a couple of questions right, and I’m more than happy with that because when you get it right, you feel great.

“That’s what I really like about The 1% Club. Producers shared some questions with me and if I’d been able to get them all right, I probably wouldn’t have done the show. But I quickly realised if someone gets these right, they’re a proper brainbox.

“Most quizzes use traditional questions, general knowledge style.

“You either know them or you don’t straight away. But what’s good about The 1% Club is the questions are about logic. If you don’t know straight away and your brain is quick enough, you can try to work it out in the 30 seconds you have to answer.

“Intelligence and knowledge can be quite different things — people who aren’t academic can have high IQs and this is more logic-based than just remembering facts. I’m not going to lie, I went through the whole series without getting a 1%. The best I did was a 5% question."

You can watch The 1% Club on Saturday, April 16 on ITV at 8:30pm.
