'That's on me' - Bristol City stars apologise after the Robins draw at Preston North End

Bristol City duo Andi Weimann and Cam Pring have both taken to social media to apologise to the travelling support after the Robins 2-2 draw against Preston North End at Deepdale.

City delivered arguably their best performance of the season, twice taking the lead through Chris Martin and Antoine Semenyo but couldn't match it with three points as they conceded yet again in injury time.

A dominate first-half performance saw City lead through Martin's opener but the deficit should have been greater had Weimann converted a regulation chance on 39 minutes.

Semenyo got to the byline and picked the Austrian out inside the penalty area but with time and space to pick his spot from six yards out, City's top scorer skewed his side-footed attempt wide of the far post.

Weimann's finishing has been outstanding so far this campaign, with the 30-year-old enjoying a career-best haul of 14 goals and converting 24 per cent of his shots taken, but this time his radar was off.

"Today feels like a loss but we are definitely moving in the right direction and with performances like the last two games we will win more then we lose," Weimann wrote on Instagram. "I should have put us 2:0 ahead and made it more comfortable for us so that’s on me.

"Big shout out to R obbie Cundy for his debut after all the hard work. Thanks to all the fans that made the long trip."

Having taken the lead again as Han-Noah Massengo threaded a pass through for Semenyo to drive home at the near post, City looked set for their first victory at Deepdale since 2011.

As Pring broke forward in the dying moments with Semenyo to his right and only one defender between them and the goal, that fact looked to be rubber-stamped only for the defender to take one touch too many and Alistair McCann recover to tackle.

At the time and on repeat viewing, Pring had case for a free-kick as McCann's challenge was from behind and it's hard to see exactly how much of the ball - if any - the Preston substitute had won. But the 24-year-old followed Weimann's lead by issuing a message on Instagram.

"Tough one to take today, as a team it was a really positive performance," Pring wrote. "Hold my hands up for the last minute, to indecisive and shouldn’t give them the opportunity to counter, will no doubt learn from that. Thanks everyone for the support."
