'That's not cool' - Jurgen Klopp addresses unwanted Liverpool transfer approach

Jurgen Klopp is adamant he does not become preoccupied with transfers made by Liverpool’s rivals – provided they don’t raid his squad for them.

Manchester City sent out a signal of their intent for next season when this week confirming in principle a £51million deal to take Norway international striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, a move Klopp later described as a "really good signing".

The Reds boss was accustomed to opponents taking players when he was in charge at Dortmund, with Bayern Munich snapping up Mario Gotze and then Robert Lewandowski.

But Klopp is not overly concerned by the business of his rivals and is convinced Liverpool will continue to attract world-class players regardless.

“Football games are sometimes decided by single players, most of the time they are decided by the whole performance and we can work on the whole performance and have world-class players – and we will have world-class players," said the Reds boss.

“It is not what other teams are doing and its like 'Gah, they signed him'. I never thought that, to be honest.

“When they took a player from me and put him there, in Germany quite frequently, it gives them 20% and us minus 20% and that's not cool. But as long as they don't pick from us, I'm fine.”

Klopp's latest big-money signing, £50m January arrival Luis Diaz, has played a key part in Liverpool still chasing down a quadruple, the second leg of which could be completed today in their FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.

The Reds boss, though, has reiterated his call that lifting all four trophies will not determine whether or not this season has been a success for his team.

“If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end when your race finishes, what life would that be?" he added. "When I say 'Enjoy the journey' I mean it. Enjoy the journey as there have been so many great moments already.

“If we stop now it's not great then we didn't win the FA Cup final and didn't win the Champions League final and came second in the Premier League. Forget that and just say 'Wow, that was a ride'.

“We only cause ourselves problems as human beings - 'Don't come home without a quadruple', for example - you will never be happy. If that is the only way to satisfy you that is really difficult. Let's give it a go.”
