‘That’s manipulation’: Mike Johnson swears in Matt Van Epps within 48 hours of election, whereas he took 50 days for Adelita Grijalva

As the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson certainly knows how to pick his battles, but when it comes to anyone from the Democratic party, you can count on him to never choose them. This was evident at the beginning of this year when Donald Trump was sworn in for a second term as president of the United States, and it remains true now as Trump is on the brink of facing impeachment for a third time.

Recently, Mike Johnson welcomed Republican candidate Matt Van Epps as a United States Representative just 48 hours after his special election win in Tennessee. While this is perfectly fine, many have highlighted the differences between Mike Johnson’s reaction to Matt Van Epp’s victory and his response to Adelita Grijalva’s win, the Democratic Party representative from Arizona. Many took to social media to discuss the situation. The discussions on X (formerly Twitter) were particularly charged, with numerous users criticising Mike Johnson and his blatant support for Donald Trump and the Republican Party. For those who might not be aware, Adelita Grijalva’s swearing-in ceremony was delayed by Mike Johnson from the beginning of her appointment, citing several reasons. Then the government shutdown happened, and Johnson found a reason to keep refusing to swear her in. At one point, he even told a reporter that she could simply start working in her role and that nothing was stopping her from performing her functions. Seriously? He did not swear her in, she did not have the keys to her office, and she did not have the necessary information that would allow her to smoothly transition into her role, and she is just supposed to start working? The last time I checked, that’s not how things work, and that is certainly not the way to run a government.

It took approximately 50 days for Mike Johnson to swear in Adelita Grijalva, and when he finally did, Grijalva made sure Johnson knew who was responsible for the delay. Grijalva tore Johnson apart in her speech and accused him of misusing his power to serve the interests of his party and defeat those of his opposition. She also stated that she would be putting the last sign required to force the release of the Epstein Files, hinting that it was one of the reasons Johnson refused to swear her in.
