‘That’s genocidal language’: Pete Hegseth’s 60 Minutes remarks on firing at Iranians leave viewers stunned

After a week of bombing in Iran, Department of War (DoW) Secretary Pete Hegseth implied indiscriminate firing as the next phase of the military operation.

“CBS News has three sources telling us that Russia is providing intelligence to Iran on US positions and movements. The average American might hear that and think that’s a big and dangerous deal, is it?” Major Garrett from CBS News asked Hegseth in a 60 Minutes interview.

“We know what’s going on, and the president has an incredible knack for knowing how to mitigate those risks,” Hegseth reassured.

“The American people, can therefore, expect conversations with the Russians to stop this?” Garrett pressed.

“President Trump, as people have seen, has a unique relationship with world leaders, where he can get things done. Certainly Joe Biden never could have,” Hegseth says, but the results have yet to be seen.

“Does this put U.S. personnel in any more danger than they otherwise would be?” Garrett asked once more, in hopes of getting an answer from Hegseth regarding the possible endangerment of U.S. service people.

“No one’s putting us in danger. We’re putting the other guys in danger,” Hegseth clarified. He continues, “Our commanders factor all of this. But the only ones that need to be worried right now are Iranians that think they’re going to live.”

Hegseth’s DoW May Have Killed Schoolgirls

These words came straight out of Hegseth’s mouth, with full context. He did not specify the targets as Iranian leaders but rather Iranians in general. It contradicts Trump’s stance, in which he claims that he’s ‘liberating’ the people of Iran.

When Hegseth said his department will be putting Iranians in danger, did that include the schoolgirls who became casualties in a U.S. operation? Does international humanitarian law no longer matter? Or is Hegseth merely trying to get a cruel soundbite out of the interview?

Whichever is the case, it’s callous and without thought. Worst of all, it’s against the rules of war. American tax dollars are being spent to burn other nations and commit atrocities to civilians abroad.

One doctor comments on X regarding Hegseth’s alarming words. He wrote, “That’s not a military objective.”

He adds, “That’s genocidal language—a direct threat to kill indiscriminately. Secretary Hegseth is unhinged and needs to be stopped.”

The Intent Was Never Liberty

One week ago, Trump was gloating about the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He posted on Truth Social, “This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS.”

Trump adds, “The heavy and pinpoint bombing, however, will continue, uninterrupted throughout the week or, as long as necessary to achieve our objective of PEACE THROUGHOUT THE MIDDLE EAST AND, INDEED, THE WORLD!”

By that, Trump means a regime change that is favorable to the United States. This is a stark contrast from Trump’s campaign promise of peace—one that many Trump voters thought he would follow through on. Never mind that every regime change that came before Trump’s attack on Iran has ended in failure.

But this doesn’t seem to matter to Trump. Regardless of his reasons, the leader of the Board of Peace is bent on waging this war against Iran, against the will of the Iranians, who will now have to live through indefinite bombings.
