‘That’s a blessing’: Ayo Dosunmu on earning starting point guard spot for Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have themselves a new starting point guard.

With Lonzo Ball out for the foreseeable future after undergoing a second surgery on his left knee, Billy Donovan has called on second-year guard Ayo Dosunmu to take the reins.

Dosunmu spoke to the media following Chicago’s preseason finale on Tuesday on claiming the starting point guard spot.

“I’m thankful because this is a great organization and we have a chance to do something special, so for me to be named point guard that’s a blessing,” Dosunmu said. “I will continue to work hard and take it day by day to get better. Just try to come out swinging from the get go.”

Following averaging 8.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in his rookie season while earning second team All-Rookie honors, the sophomore guard feels no pressure after being named the starter.

“I wouldn’t say there’s pressure. Pressure is when you are not prepared,” Dosunmu said. “You put the work in when the lights are off; when the lights are on you shine. I put a lot of work into my game, my body and my mind, so I’m blessed and relaxed. I don’t feel pressure.”
