'That has brought a tear to my eye' - Liverpool fan praised for 'absolutely class' gesture after impressing Steven Gerrard

A Liverpool supporter 'brought a tear' to the eyes of his fellow fans after he decided to split the £10,000 he won when being crowned victorious in a penalty shootout competition.

The Reds supporter, Craig, picked up his winnings in front of the Kop at Anfield during half-time of the match with Nottingham Forest with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard on the pitch to present the cheque.

Craig and fellow finalist Stevie overcame 48 other penalty takers to be in with a chance to take home the £10,000 cheque at Anfield.

After taking penalties in front of Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho, the ante was upped with Craig and Stevie taking to the famous Anfield turf with thousands of fans watching as well as former captain Gerrard.

Craig slotted his first penalty at the Kop end before Stevie's was saved - giving Craig the chance to seal the £10,000 and he did so in emphatic style after smashing the ball into the top corner.

In a real heartfelt moment, Craig decided to split his winnings with Stevie and they both took home £5,000 and memories to last forever as one viewer of the video on Liverpool FC's YouTube channel commented: "No lie the fact he's decided to split that has brought a tear to my eye. Not too many people that would do that."

Another fan praised Craig for his fantastic gesture: "What a man Craig. To give half of the money you've just won to a stranger is something else."

Craig was 'absolutely class', according to this viewer: "Honestly, what a treat to watch. I would've lost it when the lads came out on the pitch but then to meet Stevie G. Finally, Craig splitting the winnings...absolutely class."

Another supporter wanted Craig taking a penalty in a Champions League final for Liverpool: "What a legend. He could take a penalty next time in a CL final for sure!"

The big prize was made possible by SC Johnson and LFC in celebration of reaching a milestone in levels of fan recycling at Anfield. Recycling rates have soared to above 90% at every match in recent months. Starting at just a 25% recycling rate at the start of the season to an average of 86% by the end of 2022, this unique initiative will see the recycled bottles upcycled into new Mr Muscle® packaging.
