A Texas woman took action to defend herself when an armed man tried to force his way into her home in DeSoto on Friday evening. The incident unfolded in the 400 block of Raintree Circle around 7:54 p.m., prompting a swift response from local authorities.
According to the DeSoto Police Department, the woman called 911 to report an unknown man with a pistol in her backyard. As the man attempted to enter the home through the rear garage door, the woman armed herself and fired shots in self-defense.
Neighbors also reported hearing gunshots in the area, leading to a rapid police arrival at the scene. Upon their arrival, officers found the armed man, identified as 35-year-old Octavio Flores Mondragon, on the ground in the garage with gunshot wounds to his chest and face.
Mondragon was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and now faces charges of first-degree burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony. The woman recounted being followed by a dark truck from a nearby Taco Bell to her neighborhood, where the suspect attempted to enter her home.
The brave actions of the woman in defending her home have been commended by authorities, who continue to investigate the incident. The motive behind Mondragon's attempted intrusion remains under scrutiny as the community reflects on the importance of self-defense in such situations.
