Joey McGuire only has coached the Texas Tech football team for one season, but he impressed fans with an 8-5 record and a Texas Bowl victory in 2022. Now, as he prepares for the upcoming season, McGuire is entertaining fans by fulfilling a promise from months ago.
In April, Texas Tech football’s official Twitter account posted a call to action for fans, pledging that McGuire would climb a massive crane being used for stadium renovations if its post got 3,000 retweets. McGuire seemed pretty enthused by the idea, adding a “Let’s Gooooooooo!!!!!!!” to his agreement.

Texas Tech posted pictures of McGuire climbing the 220-foot crane, fulfilling the pledge he made to Red Raiders fans. The school stated that McGuire did so under the supervision of the construction crew for safety.
Special s/o to the crew for making sure every safety precaution was taken.

Please do not attempt something like this on your own. pic.twitter.com/SOFLCgldiX
It can be difficult for some coaches to connect with fans, but McGuire seems to be able to do it easily—and fearlessly.
