A Texas teacher, Angela Dawn Barnes, 45, was arrested on Monday on charges of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and student. Barnes, a teacher at Carroll Middle School, allegedly had a sexual relationship with a former student over the summer.
The investigation was initiated by the Keller Police Department following a tip received in late September. Detectives discovered that the inappropriate relationship between Barnes and the underage boy occurred off-campus during June and July. The relationship has since ended.
Carroll Independent School District took immediate action by placing Barnes on administrative leave upon being notified of the allegations. The district is fully cooperating with law enforcement and Child Protective Services in the ongoing investigation.
In a statement, the district emphasized that the alleged incidents did not take place on any CISD campuses and assured that the safety and security of all students remain their top priority. They reiterated their commitment to addressing any allegations of adult misconduct promptly and reporting them to the authorities.
Authorities have stated that they do not believe there are any additional victims in this case. Barnes has been booked into the Keller Regional Jail as the investigation continues.
