Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown inspired by Shaquille Leonard

It should be no surprise that young linebackers coming into the league will look to model their games after Indianapolis Colts star Shaquille Leonard, and chiefly among them is DeMarvion Overshown out of Texas.

During his media availability at the NFL combine Wednesday, Overshown listed The Maniac as one of the players he draws inspiration from.

“He came in as an undersized linebacker and people were questioning him on if he was going to be able to play,” Overshown said Wednesday of Leonard. “He’s balling. It’s hard not to see him on the field or miss him. He’s going to be a legend one day.”

Overshown may very well be on the Colts’ radar at the end of April. With Bobby Okereke and E.J. Speed potentially hitting free agency, the Colts may need to look to the draft to find a replacement.

Here’s what our very own Cody Manning said about Overshown when highlighting the linebackers to watch at the combine:

“Overshown originally joined the University of Texas as a safety prior to shifting to the linebacker position in 2020 and spent the last three years as a starter for the Longhorns. Overshown finished his senior season with 96 tackles (49 solo), 10 TFLs, four sacks, and five pass deflections. At the Senior Bowl, he measured 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds.”

The linebackers and defensive linemen will begin the measurements and workouts Thursday afternoon so we’ll get a good look at Overshown going through the drills.

At the Senior Bowl, Overshown also measured in with 32.5-inch arms, which is certainly a physical trait the Colts will look at considering their history of drafting linebackers.

While much of the draft focus surrounding the Colts is in regards to the quarterback position, the linebacker position is an underrated need, especially considering the questions about Leonard’s health.

It’s difficult to say whether Overshown will have his name called by the Colts, but if he’s modeling his game after Leonard, there isn’t a better inspiration than that.
