Alabama doesn’t play Auburn until November 26, but the Crimson Tide nearly fell at the hands of Auburn in Austin on Saturday afternoon.
Texas kicker Bert Auburn, that is.
With 1:29 remaining in the fourth quarter in a game that Alabama led by one, Auburn connected on a 49-yard field goal. Texas’s lead was short-lived, however, as reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young led the Crimson Tide on a nine-play, 61-yard drive that spanned 1:19 and ended with the game-winning field goal from Will Reichard.
Unsurprisingly, the internet all had the same joke. Bama escaped Auburn once this season… can they do it again during SEC play?
Bama: Looking forward to a normal football game. No weird stuff like what those Auburn freaks drag us into every single November

The fact that Texas' kicker is named Auburn is one of those amazing jewels you'll only find in college football.

BERT AUBURN, YOU COULD NOT WRITE THIS BETTER
— Alex McDaniel (@AlexMcDaniel) September 10, 2022
A man who looks like Carrot Top named Bert AUBURN just kicked a go-ahead FG to put Texas up on Bama and now I'm convinced we're living in a computer simulation.

Somebody reboot the simulation. Alabama getting a dagger in the heart from a dude named “Bert Auburn” is just too damn on the nose.

So we’re heading for a potential game-winning field goal that would allow headline writers to all go with AUBURN BEATS ALABAMA?

I just *knew* that Auburn would help Texas get ready for its move to the SEC.
