Texas Gov. Abbott Urges More Border Security Measures

Ecuador holds referendum on security measures to fight violence

During his speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott emphasized the need for increased security at the US-Mexico border. He expressed the belief that the United States requires a president who will prioritize border security, citing Donald J. Trump as the solution.

Abbott criticized President Joe Biden for reversing the measures implemented by Trump to address illegal immigration. Texas has been engaged in a legal dispute with the Biden administration over its attempts to control illegal immigration.

One of the controversial measures signed into law by Abbott is Senate Bill 4, which permits state officials to arrest and detain individuals suspected of entering the country unlawfully. However, the law is currently on hold in Texas pending a legal challenge.

Abbott accused Biden of obstructing Texas and other Republican states from securing their borders. He highlighted the administration's lack of visits to the border, prompting Abbott to take the border issue directly to them.

In 2022, Abbott initiated the practice of bussing migrants to major cities such as Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. This move aimed to draw attention to the border security issue among voters residing far from the US-Mexico border. Abbott affirmed his commitment to continue bussing migrants until the border is effectively secured.
