The Houston Texans were on the verge of hiring Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Klint Kubiak, but the San Francisco 49ers swooped in.
According to Tom Pelissero at the NFL Network, the 49ers hired Kubiak “to a top role on Kyle Shanahan’s offensive staff.” Previously that role had been “passing game coordinator” with Bobby Slowik, who took a job with the Texans as offensive coordinator under new coach DeMeco Ryans.
Kubiak was with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 as offensive coordinator in the last year of Mike Zimmer’s tenure. The son of former Texans coach Gary Kubiak was Minnesota’s quarterbacks coach from 2019-20 after he had been an offensive assistant with the Broncos from 2016-18. Kubiak was a receivers coach at Kansas in 2015 after he had first started with the Vikings as an offensive quality control coach from 2013-14. The former Colorado State product got his start in coaching at Texas A&M from 2010-11 as an offensive quality control coach before working as a graduate assistant in 2012.
