Texans LB Blake Cashman says rookie Christian Harris carries himself like a veteran

The Houston Texans selected Christian Harris with the 75th overall pick in Round 3 of the 2022 NFL draft to infuse youth and talent into their linebacking corps.

With some rookies, there is a learning curve, not only with the playbook, but with how to approach each day of life in the NFL. The transition can cause some hiccups as young players go from balancing school and football to nothing but football as their livelihood.

According to linebacker Blake Cashman, Harris has done a tremendous job of taking the task solemnly and not getting distracted — not as a normal rookie would.

“Great kid, smart player; he’s a champion on and off the field, honestly,” Cashman told reporters on Aug. 15. “It’s easy to say he’s a good athlete, good football player, but he’s a guy that’s hungry and wants to win, wants to learn, wants to be a better football player

“From day one, he was acting like a second- or third-year vet in the league. Like he’s been here, done that. I think that’s impressed a lot of people, and it’s going to help him have a long, great career.”

The Texans didn’t get to see Harris in uniform against the New Orleans Saints. With two more preseason games to go, the former Alabama product will have eight more quarters to get some work in before the regular season kicks off in September.
