Texans holding down last place in Touchdown Wire NFL power rankings

Unless it is the Jacksonville Jaguars or the Indianapolis Colts, the Houston Texans are just going to take the L. As a result, the club has a 1-6-1 record and remains the worst team in the NFL by winning percentage.

According to Mark Lane from the Touchdown Wire, even their play on the field is enough to warrant them worst in the league as the Texans are No. 32 in the latest power rankings to wrap up Week 9.

The longer the Texans’ losing streak lasts, the longer they will stay at the bottom. The Texans’ dysfunction is evident as receiver Brandin Cooks has expressed his displeasure with not being dealt at the trade deadline. At least the Astros are giving Clutch City sports fans a reason to smile.

Second-year quarterback Davis Mills has fared as best he can over the past week as Cooks and wideout Nico Collins missed the 29-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. Mills was working with Chris Moore and Phillip Dorsett, and managed to go 13-of-22 for 154 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Aside from the play under center, the defense has equally been underwhelming. There are bright spots, such as defensive end Jerry Hughes logging 7.0 sacks through eight games. However, Houston gives up 5.5 yards per carry, tied with the New York Giants for the second-most in the NFL. It is difficult to get teams off the field when the run defense is allowing offenses to display a myriad of attacks as opposed to playing one-dimensionally.

Across the rest of the AFC South, the Colts’ antics with their coaching dropped them to No. 29. The Jaguars landed at No. 21 thanks to their win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Even though the Tennessee Titans did not beat the Kansas City Chiefs, their valiant effort with Malik Willis starting in prime time failed them upward to No. 7.
