The Houston Texans are bringing former safety Kareem Jackson back to the place he called home for the first nine years of his career when he was selected 20th overall by the Texans in the 2010 NFL draft.
Houston claimed Jackson off waivers after the Denver Broncos released him after spending the last five seasons with the team once he left the Texans in 2018.
It also helps that head coach DeMeco Ryans knows exactly what Jackson brings to the table, having been his teammate for the final two seasons of Ryans’ time with Houston as a linebacker.
One reason Jackson was available to Houston was his suspension twice this season (four games in total) for unnecessary roughness penalties. He played his last game for the Broncos on Nov. 19 against the Minnesota Vikings. He was fined $89,670 in fines by the NFL.
Jackson, 35, played in eight games this season for Denver and started over 69 games for them throughout his time with them since 2018. He will receive his remaining salary of $279,444 for the remainder of the season.
The Broncos were hoping that he would clear waivers and they could bring him back to their practice squad, but the Texans needed his veteran presence after placing safety Jimmie Ward on the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season.
