Nottinghamshire is home to some fantastic pubs. Whether it be one packed full of TVs so you never miss a moment of the action or one with a beer garden offering the best views, we are certainly not short of quality boozers.
Another thing pubs are known for is their signs. There is some fantastic artwork on show across the county and pub signs depicting animals, royalty, professions and sport have been part of Nottinghamshire's history for centuries and were once a legal requirement.
Signs with images were hung outside pubs since most of the population couldn't read or write. King Richard II made it compulsory in 1393 for pubs and inns to have signs to identify them to the official Ale Taster - his own sign being the White Hart.

We've picked a selection of signs from some of Nottingham's city centre's best-known pubs - and a few from further afield with very distinctive signs. But we have removed the names to test your knowledge.
