Electric vehicle makers have been lowering prices to attract more buyers in the market, as inflation and rising interest rates have raised the cost of buying a car. Tesla (TSLA) -) this summer lowered the price of luxury vehicles Model S and Model X to $88,490 from $104,990 and its Model S Plaid to $108,490 from $135,990. It also slashed the Model X full-size SUV to $98,490 to $120,990.
The Austin, Texas, EV maker on Aug. 14 unveiled new standard-range versions of the Model S and Model X with significantly lower prices in exchange for shorter driving ranges. The company has offered only long-range and Plaid versions of the Model S and Model X since it updated the vehicles in 2021.

Electric vehicle makers lower prices
Tesla will reduce the price of the vehicles by $10,000, with the Model S sedan dropping from $88,490 to $78,490 and its range decreasing from 405 miles on a charge to 320 miles.
The Model X SUV price was lowered from $98,490 to $88,490, and its range will drop from 348 miles on a charge to 269 miles. Both models use the same long-range battery pack, but the capacity will be software-locked.
In China, Tesla on reduced the Model S price 14% to about $96,200 and the Model X by 18% to $101,640, Verdict reported.
Ford (F) -) in July lowered the price of its cheapest the F-150 Lightning pickup truck by $9,979, from $59,974 to $49,995, an over 16% decrease in price. It also in January lowered the price on the Mustang Mach-E from $46,895 to $42,995.
Lucid Motors lowered its Air Pure price to a $82,400 base from $87,400, Air Touring to $95,000 from $107,400, and Air Grand Touring $125,600 from $154,000.
Lucid unveils Midnight Dream Edition
Lucid Motors (LCID) -), which in April was named 2023 World Luxury Car of the Year at the World Car Awards, on Sept. 1 debuted its Lucid Air Midnight Dream Edition electric vehicle with a sinister Stealth theme, which features a new darkly styled configuration that has finely finished, dark polished exterior trim and 21-inch Aero Dream wheels with satin black inserts. The EV has a darker, more enigmatic interior inspired by the nighttime Mojave Desert, a Lucid statement said.
The Lucid Air Midnight Dream Edition has a range of up to 496 miles on a charge. No manufactured suggested list price was mentioned.
This exclusive, limited-production luxury electric sedan was designed with the European market in mind and will not be available in the U.S., the company said.
Lucid will showcase the vehicle at its studio at Odeonsplatz 2, Munich, Germany, during the International Motor Show Sept. 5-7. Media and guests will be allowed to view the vehicle on Sept. 5 and 6, while the general public may view the vehicle Sept. 7.
The EV maker will also showcase its Lucid Air Pure, Air Touring and Air Grand Touring models at its pop-up studio at Konigsplatz 1, 80333, Munich, Sept. 5-10. Air Pure and Air Touring both have a range of 450 miles on a charge, while Air Grand Touring has a 521-mile range.
