Tesco website and app went down with customers unable to use their Clubcard

Tesco's app and website went down this afternoon as users reported being unable to log in to their account.

Some shoppers said they were unable to order groceries or use their Clubcard as a result of the apparent glitch.

Outage tracker DownDetector showed a spike of over 700 complaints shortly after 3.30pm.

Customers said they were being greeted with a message on the Tesco app when they tried to log in that read: "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later."

Similarly, the following message appeared to some customers when they tried to log in to the supermarket's website: "We're sorry, but something went wrong.

"We've been notified about this issue please try and sign in again later. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

It is still unclear what exactly caused the technical hitch but Tesco did acknowledge the issue on social media.

In response to one shopper, the supermarket said: "We're having a few technical issues at the moment.

"Our IT team are looking into this, and it'll hopefully be sorted very soon. I'd suggest perhaps giving it an hour or so then trying again."

One Twitter user claimed they had to "abandon" their shop as they were unable to use their Tesco Clubcard.

@niallu said: "@Tesco have had to abandon my whole shop and go to Aldi as your app is down and non Clubcard prices are extortionate!"

User @Damreyuk73 said: "Why am I unable to sign in to my @Tesco clubcard app? It just says "something went wrong, try again later"! How can I use my points now?"

Another user @ed_jackson said: "Tesco having serious IT problems today. First I can’t log into my Tesco app so no clubcard discounts or points on my shop. Then it doesn’t accept Apple Pay at the checkout!"

Some shoppers use their Tesco app for their Clubcard instead of carrying a physical one, so with the outage, they were unable to claim the discounts in-store that the supermarket chain gives Clubcard members.

This meant that some shoppers could've been left paying more at the checkout.

The issue appeared to be affecting the newly revamped Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app.

Over the last few weeks, Tesco has been urging shoppers to download the new app as the Clubcard and Pay+ ones are closing.

A Tesco spokesperson told Mirror Money: "We have now fixed a technical issue that very briefly impacted some of our customers using our website and app earlier today. We are sorry for any inconvenience this caused."
