Whether you are having a small celebration or a full-blown party this Halloween, there's one thing that will fit in perfectly on your table and that's cupcakes. Amid the pumpkin carving and dressing up, you may find there is little time to bake, and with the cost of ingredients rising too, it's quite handy that supermarkets have their own themed food ranges at the ready.
Emma Gill at the Manchester Evening News has turned her attention to spooky-themed supermarket cupcakes to find out what is the best on offer. Both Morrisons and Tesco are serving up a cupcake platter for Halloween.
The colourful sweet treats come in trays of nine cakes. Some have traditional shaped frosting while others come with a wormy spaghetti-like pattern on top.

Emma Gill wrote: "Apart from the big difference in colour, Morrisons choosing a brown, purple and white scheme and Tesco a much brighter blue, green and orange, there's actually a big difference in the range of sponges too. And if you're quite particular over your cakes then it's worth paying attention.
"With Tesco you get six chocolate flavoured sponge cakes filled with chocolate sauce - three of them with green vanilla flavoured icing and three of them with blue vanilla flavoured icing - all with a scary face sugar decoration. The final three are vanilla sponge cakes filled with strawberry jam, topped with orange vanilla flavoured frosting and eyeball sugar decoration.
"With Morrisons there are three different kinds of sponge - three vanilla sponge with purple vanilla flavour frosting and a ghost sugar decoration, three chocolate sponge with chocolate frosting and an eyeball sugar decoration and finally, three red velvet sponge with white vanilla frosting, strawberry sauce and a jelly brain decoration.
"The packs might look pretty similar and they're similar in price too - £4.50 from Morrisons and £5 from Tesco, or £4 with Clubcard. But when it comes to getting your favourite cake, or more importantly your child's favourite cake, it's well worth paying attention to what's inside."
