Tesco to make major change to Meal Deal price that will impact all shoppers

Tesco is set to increase the cost of its meal deals once again - and this time it will affect shoppers who hold a Clubcard for the first time in a decade.

The 'Big Four' grocer's popular lunchtime combo - which consists of a main, snack and drink - will increase by 40p for all customers starting from next week, Monday, October 24. Originally priced at £3, Clubcard members were exempt from the previous meal deal price hike that saw the popular lunchtime offer increase by 50p to £3.50 for all non card holders.

Now Clubcard members will see themselves pay £3.40, instead of their usual £3, while non-Clubcard members will see an increase from £3.50 to £3.90.

It marks the first time in ten years that the supermarket giant has increased the cost of their popular lunch deal for Clubcard members, reports The Mirror.

Despite the new price increases, shoppers can still make a decent saving with Tesco's deal, as the most expensive combination can cost around £6.44. Meaning you’ll get a saving of £3.04 if you’re a Clubcard holder, or £2.54 if you’re not a member.

If your selection adds up to less than £3.40, or £3.90, then you will only pay the price of the items.

A Tesco spokesperson said more than 70% of customers currently use a Clubcard when buying a lunchtime meal deal.

They added: Clubcard members will pay just £3.40 for a main, snack and drink, making our meal deal an ideal way to grab a great value lunch on-the-go.

“And with savings of up to £3 on millions of possible combinations across our stores, including the recent addition of Costa hot drinks, and our ever-popular Christmas sandwiches which join the meal deal for the festive period, we’ve got something for every taste.”

The update from Tesco comes after Boots also increased the price of its meal deals this month.

The high street pharmacy chain has increased the standard price of its meal deal from £3.59 to £3.99, and from £4.19 to £4.99 in London.

Shoppers who are signed up to the Boots Advantage Card loyalty scheme pay £3.60, or £4.50 in London.

The Co-op has changed the price of its meal deals twice this year.

It now costs £3.50 for loyalty card holders, or £4 for all other customers.

It used to cost £3.75 for all shoppers, and last year, was priced at £3.50.
