Tesco to introduce two major changes for online grocery shoppers from TODAY

Tesco is increasing the minimum spend and charge for shoppers ordering their groceries online from Tuesday, May 2.

The big four supermarket currently charges £4 if the value of your home delivery shop is below £40.

From tomorrow, this charge is increasing to £5.

Alongside this, the minimum value of your food shop needs to be to avoid the charge is also rising.

From Tuesday, shoppers will need to spend £50 rather than the current £40.

The minimum order fee of £25 for click and collect shoppers will remain the same.

The price adjustment is the first change Tesco has made to its online pricing in nearly eight years.

In a statement to The Mirror, a Tesco spokesperson said: “To ensure we can continue to serve our online customers as effectively as possible, from May 2 we are making some changes to our minimum basket threshold, the first change we are making in nearly eight years.

"For the vast majority of our customers, there will be no change to the way they shop."

This is not the only change Tesco customers will see over the next few months.

From Wednesday June 14, Tesco's Clubcard points will only be worth twice their amount when shopping with Tesco Reward Partners.

Currently, if you use your Clubcard points with a Rewards Partner, which includes places such as Thorpe Park, Hotels.com and Pizza Express, you get triple the value of your points.

For example, 500 points are worth £5 to spend in-store but when converted for Reward Partners are worth £15.

From June, they will only be worth double so those 500 points, £5, will now only be worth £10.

Alongside this, Tesco customers will gain fewer points when they scan their Clubcard while buying petrol.

Currently, motorists are awarded one point for every £2 they spend on fuel.

The new change will mean that you will collect one point for every two litres of fuel you buy instead of one point for every £2 you spend.

This change will also come into place from Wednesday, June 14.

How does this compare to other supermarkets?

Sainsbury's shoppers have to spend a minimum of £40 and the fee for orders under this amount is £7.

Asda customers also have a minimum spend of £40 and they are charged £3 if they go under this.

Morrisons shoppers need to spend £25 minimum and those below £40 are charged £3.

Iceland customers have a minimum spend of £40 and incur a £3 fee if they spend less than this.
