Tesco shoppers vow to boycott store as it smells like 'rank toilet' making them want to 'heave'

Shoppers say picking up their groceries at Clevedon's Tesco is ‘making them heave’ because the store "smells like a rank toilet." And now some customers have vowed to boycott the store until the stench is gone.

Some shoppers have described it as smelling like a ‘rank toilet’ while others say the store "smells like a sewer." The pong is apparently worse around the entrance, but customers claim the whiff can be smelt throughout the building.

Tesco bosses have now apologised for the smell, and claimed staff are working on the issue.

One customer said: “It smells like a sewer when you walk in and pretty much halfway round the shop.” Another shopper said: “I feel sorry for the people working there. I shop in Asda now as can’t stand the smell of s**t. I’d refuse to work until it was sorted they must have some rights.

"No way I’d work in those conditions.” It is understood that investigations have been carried out to find the source of the stench.

But the pong continues to waft around the aisles. One shopper said: “It smells gross, makes me heave,” while another said: “I won't be going in there for a while, how anyone can do their weekly shop with that awful pong is a mystery.”

Another customer added: “I’ve noticed it for weeks. I’m always being accused of having a very sensitive sense of smell, so thought I was imagining it.

"Glad it’s not just me. Hope they get to the bottom of it."

Shoppers have also given their own suggestions for the source of the pong - from eggs to rotting vegetables to sewers outside the store.

The source of the pong is being investigated and Tesco says there is no risk to customers.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “We apologise to our customers and can assure them that our team are working to fix this issue as soon as possible."
