When it comes to bargains, this one is about as sweet as it gets.
Tesco shoppers have been urged to check the numbers on their receipts after one sneaky customer cleared an entire shelf of sugar for just a few pennies.
The anonymous shopper confessed to nabbing 12kg of the sweet stuff after discovering they were only being charged a penny per bag, Birmingham Live reports.
The bargain hunter drew both praise and criticism from fellow shoppers in a popular Facebook group, as fellow grocery shoppers vowed to look back at their own receipts and see if they'd also walked away with their own penny bargains.
Posting in the group, the shopper claimed to have hauled a 2kg bag of vending sugar (similar to caster sugar) to the tills only for it to be scanned through as 1p.
Noticing the unbelievable value, they admitted to heading back to the aisle and wiping out the rest of Tesco's supplies - coming in at 12kg for 6p.
They wrote: "I get a few bargains over my time but I think today's one is the best. 2kg or vending sugar (bit like caster sugar) 1p a bag.
"Yep, 1p. There wasn’t a price on it so I asked the lady at the till. She scanned it and said 'well ... it’s a penny'. I said 'OK thanks', went back and cleared the shelf.
"Only had six bags there but I won’t have to buy sugar for me again this year. Happy days."
The bargain was praised by savvy savers and keen bakers who regularly go through bags of sugar.
Proving the purchase, the shopper posted a picture of their receipt which did in fact show he managed to get six bags for the humble sum.
One shopper said: "Awesome bargain, good on you for clearing the shelf, if it saves you money in the long run then why not?"
Another added: "Ooo I’m a baker and this would be amazing! Never even seen this sugar in my Tesco so not holding out much hope that I’ll find it for 1p."
A third added: "I need something like this to happen to me. I go through so much sugar. And it’s only me that’s using it!"
