Tesco launches big Clubcard change that millions of Christmas shoppers will love

Tesco is trialling a change to its Clubcard & Grocery app which will let customers get coupons three times more often from this Christmas. Over four million people who use the app will now receive personalised coupons every two weeks - rather than a maximum of eight times a year at present.

The digital coupons - which may give bonus points or discounts - will be selected based on what customers spend money on and will be accessed through the Clubcard & Grocery app. If the trial is successful it will be extended to more customers, The Mirror reports.

Tesco's Clubcard is very popular with shoppers, who use it to save money on their groceries. It awards points to people based on how much money they spend, which can then be turned into vouchers, and there are also certain discounts that only Clubcard customers can get.

Shoppers will soon need to download the Clubcard & Grocery app. This is different to the old Clubcard app, which will be closing in 2023.

As before, the new app allows customers to ship in-store and online, earn Clubcard points and use Clubcard coupons and vouchers. But it will also have a number of new features, such as a stock checker, shopping list function, and a tool to let customers pay for shopping, earn Clubcard points, and use coupons, all in one scan.

Tesco chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini said: "Our customers love the way their Clubcard helps them save money on their shopping whilst earning Clubcard points to put towards those little treats like days out and restaurant meals, or to help lower the cost of their groceries and fuel."

The supermarket launched it's first ever "reverse supermarket" this week, where customers simply paid for their products and Tesco matched the value and gave it to charity. The London pop-up store has now closed.

It comes as food banks brace for their most challenging winter ever, amid soaring prices. Food inflation hit 12.4% in November, according to new figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC), the highest rate since BRC records began. That's up from 11.6% in October and 7.4% higher than last November.

And the BRC-Nielsen IQ Shop Price Index shows fresh food inflation rose even higher - hitting 14.3%, up from 13.3% last month. Meat, eggs and dairy saw the biggest jump, while coffee prices also "shot up".

The increases are caused by rising energy, animal feed and transport prices, with the costs being passed on to consumers.
