Tesco issues important Clubcard update that could change in-store shopping experience

Popular supermarket Tesco has confirmed that it will shut down two of its applications in 2023, with the first one to be axed next week.

Tesco is set to close its Pay+ app on Monday, February 27, reports the Mirror. Meanwhile, the supermarkets separate Clubcard app is also to close this year, but no date has been confirmed for this yet.

The two apps provide a simple way to use your Clubcard digitally in stores, if you don't fancy carrying around a physical card. The Tesco Pay+ app allows customers to pay for their shopping and collect Clubcard points, while the Clubcard app is just a digital version of your card to be scanned.

Now, shoppers are being encouraged to download and use the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app instead - which was previously called Tesco Grocery. It is free to download on both Android and iPhone.

The company has said the Grocery & Clubcard app combines the two other apps features together - so you can use it to pay and collect Clubcard points.

A spokesperson said: "Bringing the functionality of Tesco Pay+ into the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app is a demonstration of our focus on providing products which closely align to the needs of Tesco shoppers."

This news comes after Tesco announced that it will give workers in-store a seven per cent pay rise, in what will be the third pay increase in under a year.

The supermarket reached an agreement with the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) and will increase the hourly pay rate by 72p.

This will take the hourly wage of a store worker from £10.30 to £11.02 and staff see the pay rise from April 2.
