Tesco's meal deals are going upmarket with the introduction of a Premium Meal Deal from today.
You'll have to pay an extra £1.60 if you want to try the posher lunchtime nosh, with the new deal coming out at £5 for Clubcard members or £5.50 for those without, compared to £3.40 or £3.90 for a standard meal deal.
Tesco came under fire last year for increasing the cost of its iconic meal deal for the second time in 2022, after keeping the price at £3 for the previous 10 years. Four million people snap up the offer each week at Tesco, and around seven million Brits get their daily lunches on the meal deals offered by chains including Boots and Sainsbury's. The sector brings in more than £20m.

The meal deal upgrade will include branded mains, as well as several Tesco Finest sandwiches such as Finest Roast Beef and West Country Cheddar & Truffle Mayo Tiger Roll. Only the main will be upgraded, however, with the choice of snacks and drinks remaining the same as standard meal deal choices. Customers get to choose a premium main, a snack such as crisps of a chocolate bar and a drink for the £5 Clubcard price. Clubcard members can save up to £3.74 when compared to buying the items separately.
On the menu is well-known brands such as Itsu, YO! Sushi and Pollen & Grace, and there are 33 different mains to choose from, which Tesco reckons can be combined into four million different combinations.

- Durham Claypath Express
- Durham Extra, Dragonville Industrial Estate
