Tesco has announced plans to open a new store in an iconic red sandstone building on Leith Walk - despite a campaign to preserve local businesses.
The new Express shop will be just 150 metres from a Tesco Superstore on Duke Street.
Another Tesco on Brunswick Place is located just under a mile away.

The store will be located from 106-154 Leith Walk where the Bed Shop used to be. There is now a notice of the approved alcohol license put up on the street to notify residents.
The notice reads: "The premises is situated in a high street location, operating as a small supermarket, part of a national chain retailing food, non-food items and household goods and offering ancillary consumer services including home deliveries."
The license hours for alcohol are between 10am and 10pm Monday - Sunday.
Tesco Express will be part of the two-storey red sandstone building, which looks out onto Leith Walk and was first completed in Scottish art deco style in the 1930s.
Previously, there was a huge community effort to halt the plans that involved demolishing the buildings at 106-154 Leith Walk to develop a number of new apartments.
The Save Leith Walk campaigners worked tirelessly to save the iconic Leith building from demolition and were eventually successful.
Plans were then revisited in June 2021 and after agreeing to retain and refurbish the historic buildings that currently stand, allowing them to remain as shops and businesses, the project was given the green light.

Now, the row of shops on Leith Walk in the historic building will form a gateway to Drum Property's £50 million Stead's Place housing development, bringing 148 new homes to the area.
Other retail tenants include Hobz Bakery, Cornelius Wines, vintage clothing store Rhinestone Cowboys, Chorrito Sauce Company and Design Eat Repeat, a design store and gallery space.
The retail store also joins Leith Depot, an established bar, restaurant and music venue based at the location since 2015 and has recently signed a new lease expanding the venue and extending its stay at the retail parade.
