Tesco chief Jason Tarry has made a major announcement on pay for all employees across the UK. The supermarket giant revealed that all workers will enjoy a pay rise, which will come into force from July 24.
The chain has said all shop staff and warehouse workers will see a 5.8 per cent increase in their paypackets. Jason Tarry, chief executive officer of Tesco UK & ROI, said: “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Usdaw that recognises the vital role our colleagues play in our business now and in the future; giving them a well-deserved pay rise, more access to extra hours and setting out a long-term commitment and investment in their careers at Tesco.
“These investments in our colleagues are central to making Tesco what we truly want it to be: a great place to work for all, a place that attracts and retains the best talent in the industry. Tesco has said that its hourly pay for shop staff and warehouse workers will be increased by 5.8% from £9.55 to £10.10."

The retailer, which is the UK’s largest private employer, said the pay increase will come into force from July 24. It added that the new rate of pay is part of a £200 million investment by the company into its workers, which will also include an extension of the colleague discount allowance and new training, reports Gloucestershire Live.
This week, a Tesco worker has opened up about some of the most "annoying" things that customers say. And there is one particular comment that staff seems to hate.
A funny clip was posted by the Tesco employee on Tik Tok. Holly Dixon shared a video in which she listed some of the things she hears "at least 10 times each shift" while working on the tills at Tesco, reports the MEN.
And there is one cringeworthy "joke" people always make whenever an item doesn't want to scan. In the clip, posted to her @hollydixon2112 account, she explained the first thing she hears every day is customers telling her they "only came in for one thing", despite having what seems like "the whole shop" in their trolley.
