Tesco apologises as store forced to bin 'trollies' full of food due to fridge failure

Staff at a Tesco store in south Bristol was forced to throw away numerous trollies of chilled food in one day. Tesco Express on Oxford Street, Totterdown reportedly binned "trollies and trollies" of food products due to most of the fridges failing in store on Wednesday (August 3).

In a post shared on Facebook, Gabriel Dudley-Ward said: "Tesco Totterdown Bristol is throwing trollies and trollies of chilled food in the bin due to 90 per cent of its fridges not being cold enough. I think this is disgusting behaviour and they should be phoning every food bank/ charity in Bristol."

Tesco has apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused. The retailer has insisted that all normal safety procedures were followed in line with existing hygiene regulations, which means food that hasn’t been able to be stored at the correct temperatures must be removed from sale – either to additional cool space or to be disposed of entirely.
