Tesco and Waitrose have recalled two popular products over fears they may contain salmonella.
Big Four grocer Tesco is pulling certain use by dates of its Hog Roast Style Pork with Apple Sauce.
The possible presence of salmonella has been found in packs with the use by dates: January 6, 9, 15 and 17, 2022, February 6, 2022, and March 8 and 9, 2022.
While some of these dates may have already passed, it might be worth checking your freezer in case you have one stashed away.
The Tesco Hog Roast Style Pork with Apple Sauce comes in a pack size 425g and costs £4.
Meanwhile, rival supermarket Waitrose is recalling its own-brand Green Pesto with Basil with a use by date of February 27, 2022.
This comes in a pack size of 145g and costs £2.25.
If you’ve purchased either of these products, you should return it to your nearest supermarket for a full refund. You won’t need a receipt to get your money back.
The presence of salmonella can cause fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps.
However, Tesco and Waitrose aren’t the only companies to have issued recalls over the sickness bug in recent days.
Abbott has recalled various batches of Elecare Similac and Alimentum Similac infant formula powders because of the possible presence of salmonella and Cronobacter sakazakii.
Both products are foods used for special medical purposes for infants. You can see all the best before dates and batch codes that have been pulled on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website.
Freshers Food Ltd is also recalling certain pork products sold in Morrisons and Ocado over salmonella fears, while Dogs Choice UK is pulling some of its frozen dog food.
For all recent food recalls, you can check the FSA and Trading Standards websites.
In most cases, especially when it comes to supermarket-own products, you won't be asked to bring a receipt when you return a recalled product.
For branded items, the manufacturer will usually lead the recall, so you'll need to check with them about who is issuing the refund.
Again, it may be that you just return it to the store where you purchased it.
Other food recalls to watch out for include chocolate sold at Aldi that contains egg which isn't mentioned on the label.
This means the product poses a health rise for someone who is allergic to egg.
Asda, Boots, Morrisons and Tesco are recalling Nuby Incredible Gulp and Super Quench cups over fears they could pose a choking hazard.
Cups bought between November 1, 2021, and January 14, 2022, with batch codes WF10V and WG08V are being recalled by Nuby.
The same problem affects cups bought direct from the Nuby UK website.
