Tesco and Heinz reach deal after ketchup and baked beans vanish from stores

Tesco has confirmed it will soon stock the full range of Heinz products once again the supermarket reached an agreement with the food manufacturer.

Shoppers were left furious after being unable to find their favourite Heinz products on shelves or online, including ketchup and baked beans.

Other items that customers noticed were in short supply include salad cream and soup.

At the time, Tesco said it was locked in a price row with Heinz - and said it refuses to pass on increased costs to customers.

It blamed the manufacturer for putting up prices.

But in an update today, the supermarket said "lorries full of Heinz products" will soon hit stores after both sides reached an agreement to end their dispute.

Tesco and Heinz confirmed they news in a joint statement issued today. Both sides didn't go into detail about what the agreement involved.

In a joint statement, Tesco and Heinz said: "Tesco and Heinz are pleased to have reached an agreement that will see the full range of Heinz products return to Tesco shelves and online, continuing to offer our customers great value on the nation’s favourite Heinz varieties.

“Lorries full of Heinz products including Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Heinz Beanz will hit the road shortly, and Tesco colleagues will be working hard to ensure shelves are filled again over the coming days.

“With British summertime finally here, Tesco shoppers will be able to get all the essentials they need for their perfect summer salad or barbecue, including the Heinz varieties they know and love. It’s great to be back together.”

Last year, the boss of Kraft Heinz warned shoppers to expect higher prices over the following months.

Miguel Patricio said the firm is "raising prices, where necessary, around the world" of products including ketchup and baked beans.

Tesco still appears to be in a dispute with Mars Petcare, which is affecting supplies of popular pet foods.

Whiskas, Dreamies, Pedigree, Sheba and Crave have reportedly been missing from shelves.

A Tesco spokesperson told The Mirror that Tesco is continuing to sell Mars pet food products - but admitted some items might be unavailable right now.

Businesses are facing rising costs for fuel and commodities - but it raises a question over whether consumers or manufacturers should bare the brunt over price increases.

It comes as inflation in the UK hit 9.1% for the 12 months to May, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.
