Terry McLaurin frustrated after another Commanders’ loss

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin is a positive individual. Whether as a player, team leader, with the media, or his outstanding work off the field, McLaurin is always honest, approachable, and usually has a smile on his face.

After another Commanders’ loss, this time a 27-10 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, McLaurin spoke about another difficult game and season.

“It’s definitely tough,” he said, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. “I mean, you want to be a part of something that is sustainable, and you’re winning and competing at a high level.”

Then, McLaurin spoke of the 49ers and their continued run of success.

“They’ve got a great staff over there,” McLaurin said of the 49ers.” They’ve got great players. You can tell that they love playing together……I got to spend some time with a lot of those guys; like six or seven of them made the Pro Bowl last year. I really got to be around them, and it kind of reminds me a little bit [of] Ohio State……the kind of culture that they have and everything. You see why they have the success that they do.”

McLaurin mentioning San Francisco’s culture, which reminded him of Ohio State, is similar to what Chase Young said after his trade to the 49ers.

Was McLaurin taking a shot at Washington’s current staff?

That doesn’t appear to be McLaurin’s style. Nor is it Jonathan Allen’s style, Both longtime leaders have been outspoken recently about being tired of losing. While McLaurin hasn’t taken it to the level that Allen did, saying he would reevaluate his future after the season, he’s frustrated with the losing, his role and the continued instability at the quarterback position.

Can you blame him?

Finally, McLaurin offered the following comments regarding the 49ers.

“When you’re going against teams like that, you got to play — not perfect, but you got to make the most of every opportunity,” McLaurin said. “You got to give them credit for building that team and for the players going out there and executing. Hopefully, I can be a part of something like that, but I’m just focused on myself, my world, and my journey, and I’m going to keep working to be the best player I can be.”

Washington fans will have a new regime soon. Presumably, that new regime would want to continue building around McLaurin, particularly if the Commanders draft a potential franchise quarterback with their top-five pick. However, nothing is certain about the Washington franchise until the team hires a new general manager and head coach.
