Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis expressed feeling 'humiliated' after being handcuffed and removed from a United Airlines flight over the weekend. The incident occurred during a flight from Denver to Orange County, California.
Davis recounted tapping a flight attendant on the arm, which led to the employee reacting by shouting 'don't hit me' and quickly moving to the front of the plane. Upon landing, law enforcement boarded the aircraft, handcuffed Davis without explanation, and escorted him off the flight.
In a social media post, Davis shared his feelings of humiliation, embarrassment, powerlessness, and anger following the ordeal. However, during questioning, law enforcement determined that the accusations made by the flight attendant were unfounded and issued an apology to Davis.
United Airlines responded to the incident by reaching out to Davis' team to offer an apology. The airline also disclosed that the flight attendant involved had been removed from duty pending a review of the situation. A statement from United Airlines emphasized that such experiences were not reflective of the service standards they aim to uphold.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed that agents and law enforcement personnel at Orange County’s John Wayne Airport had responded to a report of an incident on the flight. The individual in question was detained and subsequently released after cooperating with authorities.
Concluding his social media post, Davis called for an investigation into the flight attendant's actions, alleging that false accusations had caused undue harm to him and his family. Davis' attorney also announced plans to thoroughly investigate the events and engage with United Airlines regarding the matter.
