THOUSANDS of homes in Skye and the Western Isles were hit by a major power cut on Friday morning, SSEN Transmission has reported.
Around 26,000 properties across the isles saw their power supply give out at around 5am on Friday, with power returning by 10am for the majority.
SSEN said 1200 customers in Dunvegan, Skye, were reconnected later in the day.
A spokesperson for SSEN said: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
"Teams from SSEN Transmission continue to investigate the cause of the fault before safely carrying out any repairs and restore the network to normal operations."
It is understood the fault occurred on a 100-mile long 132kV overhead line running from Fort Augustus to Skye causing the transmission network to be affected.
