What Tennis Elbow Actually Is
The name is the problem. Lateral epicondylitis, the clinical term for tennis elbow, is damage to the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon, a cord of tissue that anchors forearm muscle to the bony knob on the outside of your elbow. When that tendon is loaded repeatedly without adequate recovery, the collagen fibres develop micro-tears. The body tries to repair them, lays down disorganised tissue, and the result is a chronic low-grade injury that hurts most when you grip, twist, or lift with your palm facing down.
