In addition to releasing Rodger Saffold and Kendall Lamm, the Tennessee Titans also released running back/return specialist Darrynton Evans on Thursday. The move will save the Titans $785,584 in 2022.
Evans, 23, was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Appalachian State and is the latest member of that class to flame out.
As a rookie, he accumulated 54 yards on 14 carries in five games, but was plagued by injury. The Oak Hill, Florida native could not stay healthy this past season, either.
He missed the team’s first six games with a knee injury that landed him on IR before being activated for the Titans’ game against the Chiefs. Evans had two carries for seven yards in that game while also hauling in two catches for 11 yards.
He showed up on the following week’s injury report and was placed on IR for a second time, ending his 2021 season.
Given the injury-plagued season, I thought that Evans might get another shot next season, but it’s now a wasted third-round pick as he’ll look to latch on with another team.
