Tony Carruthers' scheduled execution in Tennessee on Thursday was halted after officials failed to find a vein for the lethal injection.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee granted Carruthers a one-year stay following the botched injection. Maria DeLiberato, an attorney for Carruthers, began crying while addressing reporters when the reprieve was announced, “That’s amazing!” she said. “I’m so grateful!”
