Christa Pike, who was set to become the first woman in 200 years to be executed in Tennessee, survived the two lethal injections that were administered to her in prison. Following this, she was transported to a hospital and given emergency life-saving care. However, she remains unconscious and on a ventilator after the failed execution, according to ABC News.
Days after Pike was hospitalized, the Tennessee Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada announced that he will resign from the post, according to Governor Bill Lee. Strada mentioned that stepping down was “in the best interest of Tennesseans as the independent review moves forward.”
