Glasgow isn't short of pubs, though some of the best boozers the city has seen have disappeared from our streets over the years.
Since we all enjoy a wee tipple on Hogmanay, some of these pubs were go-to choices when it came to seeing in the New Year. Sadly, they're no longer - but we'll always have our memories.

Sparkles
This Sauchiehall Street watering hole changed names many times over the years, though most would probably remember it as Sparkles.
Cheap as chips, pretty tacky, and the perfect way to see in the New Year. While Sparkles itself is long gone, the building still stands and is open as the Priory Bar today.
Sylvesters
Developed into homes in the early ‘00s, Sylvesters was where a whole generation of Glaswegians probably had their first drink.
Introducing family Tuesdays in the early ‘80s, the spot earned a reputation as a gathering space of sorts. This made it the perfect boozer for New Year’s, with plenty of others to mix with.
The Old Eagle Inn
In the railway arches of the old St Enoch Station, this pub became a true Glasgow institution.
With a reputation for serving the under agers, it was one of the first Glasgow pubs to serve Carlsberg Export and the German draught lager Holsten. Sadly, it disappeared along with the Hotel and Station.
The Muscular Arms
Now open as Yo Sushi, Glasgow’s ‘pop art pub’ was considered the first venue in the city for trendy folks.
Decorated with the front half of a 1936 Chrysler car, there were also superhero characters adorning most of the walls. Only the coolest of Glaswegians would have spent their Hogmanay here.

The Burns Howff
Once one of the popular pubs in Glasgow, this West Regent Street spot was the city’s ‘original music mecca’.
Many locals could still be suffering from tinnitus from being in the walls of the Burns Howff, but it was worth it.
The Mars Bar
Just off St Enoch Square, this was the place to be for the young punks of the city in the late ‘70s.
After some backlash from the chocolate bar makers, they changed their name to The Countdown - but it was still just as cool.
Centre Court
One of Glasgow’s more bizarre watering holes, Centre Court was Wimbledon themed and featured a green carpet with bar staff dressed in tennis gear - yes really.
With a plush lounge and cocktail bar, the walls were adorned with framed photographs of Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors and Sue Barker. A very fancy Hogmanay could be had here.
Mitre Bar
First opening in 1927, Mitre Bar soon became a popular haunt with locals.
It closed in the ‘90s and was eventually demolished - but many a good time was had before that.
The Amphora
Another Sauchiehall Street venue that was known by many different names, The Amphora also had lived as Pythagoras, Maxaluna or Edwards.
Many Glaswegians had their first drink here, and it was a pretty popular spot on New Year’s Eve. Gone, but never forgotten.
The Pandora
This Victoria Road venue was replaced by the Locavore Grocery, but those lucky enough to remember its pub heyday will recall the Five Flies Lounge - which offered up a meal of bacon and baked potatoes for only 50p.
Bargains aside, you could have a pretty good time here.
