Ten half marathons you can enter in London in autumn 2023

For those stepping up their distances in training for the 2024 London Marathon or looking for a good time over 13.1 miles, the autumn is a good time for a half marathon.

As well as the cooler, but pleasant, weather, the falling leaves can also provide a beautiful scene - if you are able to notice these things while pounding the pavement.

There are many places around the capital to test yourself over a half marathon, whether you are looking for a new PB, a different kind of challenge, or stepping up to the distance for the first time. The 2024 London Marathon will be on April 21, so for anyone new to running who is attempting the full distance, an autumn half will be a useful stepping stone.

Here are ten of the best half marathons in London this autumn and if there is just about time to train if you are ready to go.

September

The Big Half - Sunday, September 3

Mo Farah will have his last ever race in the capital at this one before he calls time on his career at the Great North Run. But, further back in the pack, there is plenty to be enjoyed as The Big Half is a sightseeing tour of central London. Places are running out.

Ealing Half Marathon - Sunday, September 24

Home to deer...and running: Richmond Park (PA)

October

Richmond Park Half Marathon - Sunday, October 1

A more accessible way to see one of the Royal Parks (see below for the full-blown junket) and it is also an affordable one with entry at £25. There is also a 5km and 10km option for those wanting a shorter option.

Royal Parks Half Marathon - Sunday, October 8

Linking the eight Royal parks, the event is famous for its beauty as well as its spirit and has found itself a key fixture on the calendars of runners for years. There are only a few places left for this one, and in 2023 your best bet for entry might be a charity place.

Victoria Park Half Marathon - Saturday, October 14

For those in the East Side, Victoria Park does offer a flat course that is perfect for a PB - although it is several laps of the same loop. That said, it is known for having a good, ready crowd of spectators and is in sight of the Olympic Park should you need more inspiration.

You too can run in the Olympic Park - although not the stadium (PA)

The Richmond Autumn Riverside Run - Saturday, October 14

Starting in Richmond itself, the race works itself along the Thames to Kingston before coming back towards Ham House. Limited places but an awesome way to see the South West in its full glory.
