Several restaurants in Greater Manchester have been shortlisted at the prestigious British Curry Awards 2022. The glamorous ceremony takes place next Monday (November 28) and brings together the very best curry restaurant's across the UK.

Across the North West, 13 curry houses and restaurants have been shortlisted including 10 in Greater Manchester. In the city centre, restaurants nominated include Scene Indian Street Kitchen, Asha's, Dishoom, Mowgli Street Food, Deli House Cafe and Bundobust. In Oldham, Blue Tiffin Restaurant has also made the cut, as has Indialicious in Rochdale.

Closer to the city centre, Inidque on Burton Road and Sanskruti on Mauldeth Road have also been named. Additionally, Indian Affair on Barlow Moor Road in Didsbury, has been shortlisted for a Best Newcomer award.

The official ceremony takes place at Evolution London, Battersea Park on Monday, with the UK's leading curry restaurants in attendance, as well as famous faces from across showbiz, sports and politics expected to attend. The 18th Annual British Curry Awards will this year be dedicated to the award's founder, Enam Ali MBE, who passed away earlier this year.

The 2022 Event marks the first year of the Diners Choice Award, a category which rewards establishments who are able to engage their customers or audience through social media. The awards will also focus on the issues currently facing the UK curry industry - and the wider hospitality sector - due to the cost of living crisis.

The industry is currently facing a lot of uncertainty due to rising energy bills and the cost of living crisis. Earlier this year it was reported that London restaurants could charge £30 for a curry as inflation creeps up, with leaders in the industry concerned it could lead to the closure of many curry restaurants across the UK.

Speaking the Liverpool Echo, Jeffrey Ali, Director of the British Curry Awards, said: "We have received tens of thousands of nominations this year and look forward to announcing the results of our months-long judging process and live vote due to be held at the biggest and most anticipated ceremony on the hospitality calendar. Whilst the international community, especially the UK, faces a continued onslaught of economic uncertainty and political instability, we take solace from the general public who continue to support local businesses such as their local curry restaurants.

"We're currently developing the 'Onion Bhaji Index', which will help consumers and business owners alike to better understand prices at their local curry establishment. As a consumer forward award platform, our goal is to promote the best in Britain, bringing real value to our nation’s customers."
