Tems' stunning Oscars dress sparks debate after blocking view claims

Tems stole the show with her incredible Oscars dress - but was then accused of stealing the view of those sitting behind her.

Her elaborate Academy Awards outfit turned heads as she wore the stunning white puffy gown on the red carpet.

But after she took her seat, many watching on TV had sympathy for those trying to see the ceremony behind her.

With the back of the dress wrapped around her head, fans were wondering if the gusts in the rows behind could see what was going on.

Tems was nominated for Best Original Song for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever track Lift Me Up.

The star, full name Temilade Openiyi, had plenty of love for her eye-catching ensemble with many on twitter saying the fashion-forward frock was bold and brilliant.

But many just felt sorry for those seated behind her.

"Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud," one person mocked.

Another put: “She looks stunning but perhaps they could have made the top bit detachable.”

A third said: "“I guess the people behind the white veil don’t get to see the show."

But someone else said: “If you’re sitting BEHIND greatness that is known as Tems, then perhaps you’re just not that important.”

Another wrote: “I would think the Oscars would have large screens to view the stage from."

Lift Me Up, Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna and Ryan Coogler and Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick by Lady Gaga caught everyone's attention when the nominations were announced earlier this year.

But it was 'Naatu Naatu' from 'RRR' that won the Oscar for Best Original Song on Sunday night.

He wrote the award-winning song Naatu Naatu from Bollywood blockbuster RRR, and has already seen great success during the 2023 awards season, having scooped best song accolades at both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards

The 61-year-old said: “I grew up listening to The Carpenters and now here I am with the Oscars.”

He went on to sing: “There was only one wish on my mind…RRR has to win, pride of every Indian, and must put me on top of your world.”

The songs lyrics were by Chandrabose.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi even sent his congratulations to the team behind the song after they surprised viewers by beating the pop icons.
