Tempur-Pedic and Helix are two of the most prominent and prestigious mattress brands behind some of the best hybrid mattresses in the world. In this Tempur-Pedic mattress vs Helix mattress comparison, we’re comparing the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Hybrid vs the Helix Midnight Luxe to see which hybrid best suits your body and sleep needs.
Like the best mattress, both beds off a keen balance of comfort and support. Both are hybrid mattresses, which means that they are crafted from a combination of coils and foam. Price-wise, a queen size Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud is $1,399 (was $1,999), thanks to an incredibly strong early Memorial Day mattress sale.
However, the Helix Midnight Luxe is an epic 30% off at the moment, reducing the price of a queen to $1,661.66 from $2,373. Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud vs Helix Midnight Luxe mattress: Specs
Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Hybrid vs Helix Midnight Luxe mattress: Price, trials & warranties
- The Tempur-Cloud is only reduced at major sales events
- The Helix sales usually range between 20%-25% off
- The Helix is currently reduced by 30%, which is the best discount we’ve seen
Tempur-Pedic mattress sales generally only crop up during major holidays, with 30% off the Tempur Cloud being the norm. You can also look at sales from authorized Tempur-Pedic resellers such as Amazon and Macy’s, although prices tend to be the same and, in this case, we’d recommend buying directly from Tempur-Pedic for easier aftercare.
Tempur-Pedic offer a 10-year warranty as well as free shipping, but the 90-night trial period is disappointing compared to most other major brands. And for the price of the mattress, it’s also disappointing that delivery is only to your front door – you’ll only get white glove delivery with the more expensive mattresses.
Helix mattress sales run continuously, with an evergreen discount of 20-25% off. This Memorial Day the mattress is discounted by 30%, which is the largest discount we’ve seen on the Luxe range (there’s also 30% off Helix’s Elite range as well). There are two free pillows bundled in as well and the mattress comes with a 100 night trial period.
You’ll also get a 15-year warranty and free shipping to your door. There’s currently no option for white glove delivery from Helix, unless you live in California where you can book to have your old mattress removed and new one delivered to a room of your choosing.
Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Hybrid vs Helix Midnight Luxe mattress: Materials & design
- Both mattresses are luxury hybrids
- The Tempur-Pedic is a 10” mattress with five layers
- The Helix is a 13.5” mattress with six layers
Although both mattresses are hybrids, they’re constructed differently beneath the covers. The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Hybrid starts with a stretch cover that wicks away moisture and promotes breathability. Underneath is a comfort layer of Tempur memory foam for a slow release to pressure, followed by a transition layer of slightly firmer Tempur foam to contour to the body. This sits on top of a layer of 1,000+ spring coils for additional support. At the bottom is a base layer of high-density polyfoam for stability and structure.
The Helix Midnight Luxe is one of our chosen best hybrid mattresses, offering sleepers plenty of soothing comfort. The Helix comes with a quilted pillow top Tencel cover, with the option to upgrade to a GlacioTex cover for extra cooling. You’ll see this fabric in many of our best cooling mattresses, with the it being well regarded for its ability to help keep sleepers cool.
Underneath the cover is a layer of polyfoam, followed by a layer of copper gel memory foam, both designed to contour to your body. Next up is a transition layer of memory foam, which sits on a layer of individually wrapped coils. These are firmer around the lumbar and edges of the mattress. Finally, there’s a dense foam base layer for support.
Both mattresses are mattresses in a box and will arrive at your front door rolled up and ready to put on your bed.
Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Hybrid vs Helix Midnight Luxe mattress: Comfort & support
- The Tempur-Pedic is a medium firm mattress that rates as a 6-6.5/10
- The Helix Midnight Luxe is rated at 6/10
- Both offer outstanding support for side sleepers
Despite having coils inside, the Tempur-Pedic still has the traditional memory foam ‘hug’ you’d expect from the Tempur foam. The mattress is particularly suited to side sleepers, who will be well supported by the plush contouring of the mattress, which offers exceptional pressure relief around the shoulders and hips.
Back sleepers of light and average weight will also feel supported and cradled, with the Tempur-Pedic providing ample contouring around the lower lumbar region to help ease back pain. It’s not a great fit for heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their stomachs, as the mattress is too soft to prevent the hips from sinking out of alignment with the rest of the body.
The Helix Midnight Luxe is specifically designed for side sleepers, with the upper memory foam layer providing plenty of deep pressure relief around the hips and shoulders. The addition of the pillowtop on the Luxe version means that there's more plushness than the original Helix Midnight.
However, this is by no means a soft mattress. During our Helix Midnight Luxe mattress review, our lead tester found it so be supportive enough to sleep on her back. This bed is also exceptionally good at isolating motion and makes it a great choice for those sharing their bed with a restless partner, plus the bolstered edge support is a worthy update on the original Midnight.
Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud Hybrid vs Helix Midnight Luxe mattress: Temperature regulation
- Both mattresses have features to help with cooling
- The Tempur-Pedic does have cooling features, but prone to trapping heat
- The Helix has the option to upgrade to a GlacioTex Cooling cover
The Tempur promotes good airflow through its layer of springs and there’s also a breathable cover to help wick away moisture. However, Tempur foam is notorious for its deep contouring, which allows sleepers to sink into the mattress. And, even with the layer of coils, this is still a mattress with a lot of foam. So, we wouldn’t recommend it to those who sleep particularly hot.
The Helix also has a breathable cover, copper gel memory foam to draw heat away from the body and individually wrapped coils to promote airflow. If you choose to upgrade to the GlacioTex cover you’re essentially making it into a cooling mattress, although the cover does make the bed quite slippery. However, without the cooling cover some customers reported that it sleeps a little warm.
