Ireland is in for a cold snap next week with overnight temperatures set to dip as low as -2C.
Weather forecasters are warning of a dramatic 18-degree swing with a cold blast set to turn spring sunshine to freezing conditions.
The Baltic “sharp blast of cold air” will hit on Monday, according to Met Eireann, and could last for several days. Temperatures have fallen from the balmy midweek highs of 16C and things are going to get worse before they get better, weather experts warned.

Met Eireann’s Matthew Martin predicted: “After plenty of sunshine over the past few days, it looks set to turn somewhat cloudier for the weekend with some showers.
“It will be quite cold on Monday night, with a potential widespread frost and lows of -2C to 3C.”
It has been a disappointing spring for sun worshippers with last month officially the wettest March on record.
The average of 173mm of rainfall across the country eclipsed the previous record set in March 2019.
Alan O’Reilly, of Carlow Weather, said: “A sharp blast of cold air will move down later on Sunday and last to Wednesday, but milder air is expected to move back in then.”
