If fans thought Newcastle’s hopes of getting a victory against Leicester City were dead and buried as injury time ticked by, they were wrong. Because on Easter Sunday, Brazilian superstar-in-the-making Bruno Guimaraes brought those hopes back from the dead.
Newcastle United had fallen behind early in the first half against Leicester City, but shortly afterwards Bruno battled with Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to get the ball, nudging it with his foot from between Schmeichel’s legs into the goal. The referee had a look on video to check for a foul and gave it the okay.
Then after five minutes of injury time Bruno got onto the end of a Joe Willock cross and scored Newcastle’s second. The Magpies saw out the 2-1 win and Bruno was hailed by fans.

The performance prompted the Chronicle’s Chief Newcastle United writer Lee Ryder to give Bruno 10 out of 10 for the second match in a row. The previous 10 was for the 1-0 win over Wolves.
Ryder wrote of Bruno’s performance against Leicester: “His never say die attitude won the day. Two goals and some fantastic passing movement.”
Meanwhile Ryder gave Allan Saint-Maximin 6 out of 10. Chris Wood was given the same score. Do you agree? How did you rate the players? You can let us know by submitting your scores below.
The 2-1 victory over Leicester left Newcastle in 14th place, just three points behind Leicester and now decidedly looking up the table rather than down.
